Animal Facts:
  1. There are 8 species in total, belonging to the genus Manis in the Manidae family - the only family in the order Pholidota
  2. They share similar characteristics with Xanarthrans (armadillos, anteaters, sloth etc) but are more closely related to Carnivora (bears, dogs, cats etc)
  3. They have tough overlapping scales (made from Keratin), eat ants/termites with extremely long tongues, and roll into a ball when threatened
  4. Found across Africa and Asia, they are one of the most threatened groups of mammals in the World thanks to poaching and habitat loss
